Fabaceae (Mimosoideae)
Perennial
Flowering (January) March-May
There are some confusing views.
Isely 1973 presented
Acacia farnesiana AUCT. as Acacia smallii ISELY
Isely purported that most of what is considered Acacia farnesiana in the USA was in reality what he called Acacia smallii (AKA Vachelia densiflora ALEXANDER ex SMALL).
Isely was of the opinion that, in the US, true Acacia farnesiana only exists in Florida.
Powell 1998 on the other hand comments that "Clarke (et al. 1989) restored the name A. farnesiana..."
Whatever the case,
Acacia farnesiana (L.) WILLDENOW
has been renamed Vachellia farnesiana (L.) WIGHT & ARNOTT
"Huisache"
